Although I love practicing medicine it took me a while to get to where I am, having previously considered careers as a politician (they aren't all bad!), a marine biologist (I love to SCUBA dive), a rabbi, and a lawyer.
As a physician, my goal is to listen carefully to every patient as if they were my best friend and to work hard to help each one to live a health promoting life and feel better. When not doctoring, I like to hunt for wild mushrooms, play the violin (I'm not good, but it teaches me to be humble), and try to be a cowboy (long story).
I live in San Francisco, my dream since I grew up on the Peninsula, with my wife, Dr. Annelise Goldberg, and her 95 year old mother, Thelma, and our dog, Ellie. My boys, Isidor, 24, a math teacher and a "real" violinist, and Max, 27, Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps and Yale Law student make me proud every day.
